Korean Black List

Please if appropriate, submit to the GREENLIST. I know there are many people with positive experiences living in Korea. Please post your positive experiences.

Should you like to contribute to the Black List, please go here. You must provide a valid e-mail address for submission, essays about students being punished for harrassment.

In addition, please be brief. People will not long read long-winded complains that meander and go no where!! This document is for informational purposes only, and there is absolutely, positively no claim to its accuracy, essays about students being punished for harrassment, rather it is only the opinion of only those individuals who have decided to share their stories.

In other words, everything in this document is complete fiction, except for that which is not, essays about students being punished for harrassment. Jon disclaimer. Back to Top SOT School of Tomorrow Gwanakgu campus. I would like to add SOT otherwise known "School of Tomorrow" to the Blacklist. What essays about students being punished for harrassment out first as a great environment quickly turned sour.

The location and apartment are the only good things this hagwon has to offer, essays about students being punished for harrassment. However, I quickly realized you are not given much help in the classroom as you deal with kids who are three to five years old alone for hours at a time in rooms wit no computers or electronics to help. You are expected to magically teach them English when these students cannot even write in their own native language or use the toilet alone.

SOT management constantly scold you on the students progress when you have many students with learning and behavioral disabilities. You are essentially expected to babysit, but simultaneously be scolded for not performing magic in the classroom.

Foreign Teachers are expected to know Korean to communicate with these babies at all times since the students cannot speak a work of or understand English. It is almost impossible to teach and with no computers to play music and help facilitate the classroom, you are just left to watch them not hurt themselves for hours at a time. This hagwon, just like many others are a joke, and xxxxxx care more about parent complaints than the educational well-being of students.

The Korean teachers are exhausted and overworked and looking for other employment opportunities with some attending classes on the weekends and after work to improve their skills to transition to work with adults instead of kindy kids. Additionally, during the ongoing pandemic, a native teacher was recently fired for catching corona in such a heartless way. While the teacher was put in a government facility for two weeks, the teacher was then blocked by xxxxxx so no contact could be made.

Leaving the teacher so confused on what to do since they were stuck in a government quarantine facility. Thus, a recruiter had to relay the messages between the xxxxxx and the teacher. The teacher was then evicted and given two days to move out of their home without given a letter of release to move to a new position which thus led them to their visa getting cancelled, and forced to return back to their home country, essays about students being punished for harrassment.

The way the situation was handled was very unprofessional and baffled the other native teachers. It was cruel to see a fellow native teacher be disregarded for something they have no control over. It is a very hostile environment to work in. I highly recommend people to avoid applying for this hagwon and campus because if during a pandemic you become ill, you are deemed worthless and irredeemable. Back to Top JM Academy in Seoul. I'd like to add JM Academy in Seoul to the Blacklist. This hagwon likes to employ new teachers so they can "mold" them to their liking.

But it's really just because they can take advantage of you for doing more work than you really need to and thinking you won't question or critique it.

Their curriculum is lousy and they expect you to know everything even if you've only gone through the materials once, essays about students being punished for harrassment.

You get shamed for asking questions that "have been covered in meetings" vs just having information explained to you. The xxxxxx is Caucasian American, has a power complex and refuses to listen to how things could be improved. Xxxx is also in charge of "HR" but openly admits xxx hates that part of the job and tries to distance herself from that side of the job as much as possible. It's ridiculous, you're offered no help if you feel like your rights have been infringed upon or if you have work related issues.

It is not a healthy work environment at all. Teachers work together all day in a cramped office space shared by most of the foreign teacher staff and some of the Korean teacher staff. It's roughly 25 people in a small room. Definitely not COVID friendly.

Not only do you work stacked next to these people but you share a house with them as well. So you work with these essays about students being punished for harrassment all day and then you go home and have to share your living space with them because supplemental housing is not an option. Oh right, I forgot to mention they only hire women, but honestly men you wouldn't want to work here anyways. Everyone is overworked but it's one of those places that gets you to stay late because of the "family" mentality.

You don't mind staying late because your friends who you live with, also might have to stay late and since you share an office it's like a hangout session. But really you're working for free off the clock. It's sick. My last complaint isn't really a complaint but a realization that in the past year alone 4 people have quit, which apparently has never happened.

If there's ever a bad sign of a company it's people quitting in large numbers. As you look through Blacklist you can already see a few other posts about JM being terrible and I can absolutely agree with these claims. I hope this message gets to someone soon as the new hiring process is about to start.

Whatever you do, DON'T WORK HERE. Back to Top SLP Ulsan Nam-gu branch, essays about students being punished for harrassment. I would like to submit SLP Ulsan Nam-gu branch to the blacklist. Easily the worst place I have ever worked, which says a lot because this area of Ulsan, Nam-gu, essays about students being punished for harrassment, is known essays about students being punished for harrassment having tons of English academies that cater to the wealthiest residents of the city, i.

impossibly high standards, toxic working conditions, and over-demanding helicopter parenting, etc. SLP in Ulsan Nam-gu takes every negative and toxic stereotype or trait attached to an English kindergarten and puts them all together and amplifies them.

XXXX does a really good job selling the school to both parents and teachers. But is absolutely lost when it comes to real management or control over anything. The first day I walked in and asked for a schedule and where to go and they essays about students being punished for harrassment in a flustered tone, “I, I don't know, go, go just go to the gym and play or somethingE XXXX just treats this place as their own personal social media empire.

When other teachers say all that they do at their academies is “just to make the parents happyEthis place takes that ethos and amplifies it to XXXX seems to only really care about the networking and gossiping between all the wealthy mothers. They charge nearly 3 times more than other academies but offer a staggeringly worse service as a whole.

Any of the positive improvements and student development happened because some of the teachers there cared enough to make essays about students being punished for harrassment things work. XXXX can take zero credit for that because they gave little to no direction, encouragement, or help, and in fact, even tried to hinder and stop teachers from trying to teach and help the students in meaningful ways.

Instead of preferring we just "smile and be kind" to them, even not caring if whole classes did not speak any English. XXXX wanted us to give certain students special treatment and be unfair in classes to students whose mothers complained more or who had mothers that other mothers or the owner considered to be popular.

XXXX would always say "they are just 5 or 6 or 7 years old! Well, those year-olds are children, but they will grow up to be adults. What kind of adults will they be when they get everything they want when they cry or scream enough? To their credit XXXX did try to follow the law much more honestly than other schools. They also made sure their whole faculty and staff received vaccinations which were good moves on their part, and I will commend them for that.

Though when COVID was experiencing another group of big waves and all the schools and academies around SLP Ulsan Nam-gu were closing for student and staff safety SLP closed a whopping number of 1 times.

So in sum, there are no repercussions for students acting out of control, many of the classes, especially at lunchtime are like warzones. Teachers are reprimanded if they try to actually teach English or to try to control or manage the students.

Most of the students aren't there to learn just to play. Teachers are expected to just smile and play games and make the students happy at all times. But also to finish the books and write the answers in themselves if the students don't. If anyone steps out of line they are bullied by XXXX or by other foreign or Korean staff. Bullying is encouraged among the students and teachers alike. Many teachers quit within the first couple of weeks of opening and continue to quit with a few foreign teachers leaving all within the same month span.

XXXX also sometimes "forgets" to pay pension. Pay, overall though, is quite good and medical benefits are there. But otherwise, stay away.

Back to Top Wizville Language Institute in Yeonhui-dong Seodaemun. Many people fall for their tactics. Even after looking at the black list reviews, I was sure that the experiences of those individuals would not be my own. I was completely wrong. In the beginning everything was fine, but after a while the staff really began to show their true colors. Teachers were told they would have 30 classes or less, but ended up with 33 in one week. It’s a tiring schedule that will quickly lead to burnout.

There have been times a teacher has almost passed out from exhaustion teaching at this school. It breeds a toxic, hostile work environment. If you resign from this school, chances are you will have to pay for a release letter.
